The Merman and The Moon Forgotten (Nikolas and Co #1) is about a ragtag group of teenagers that travel from earth to a mythological reimagination of our moon. It’s called Nikolas and Company: The Merman and The Moon Forgotten. So, sending my book up in a high altitude balloon into outer space seemed like the most logical conclusion…ok. For full disclosure, actually, I’ve always wanted to ride a weather balloon into space. But if the balloon popped, then I probably wouldn’t survive the descent, no matter how much bubble wrap I tied myself into. So, I’ve opted to send my book instead. We will film and share it with you guys next week!

If you’re around the metroplex and want to come out for launch day, then email me for details: kevinonpaper@gmail.com

And who knows, if all goes well, maybe I just might buy some industrial strength bubble wrap and go up myself.

Finishing the Nikolas and Co Series…all 16 books

Nikolas and Co Cycle Series

So…yeah. I’m finishing the series. 3 cycles left, each cycle containing 4 books of about 30k each.

Whew.

When I wrote the first four books for Nikolas and Co (which was only supposed to be one book, but it went a bit too long and I’d always had a thing for episodic storytelling), I knew there would be many more. 16 total. I knew where I wanted to take Nikolas, his relationship with his brother, Tim, and the whole gang.

But I was also buuuuuurned out.

I’d never done something like this before. So in 2013 when I published Fire of the Lionsbran I decided to take a break. Did I know it would be a seven year break? Nope. But things happened along the way. My family and I moved for a new job. I adopted a beautiful boy.

Oh.

I also got an agent! She’s great. Marisa Corvisiero. So we put our heads together and I wrote another book, which we hope to sell soon. Monster Rangers of Time and Space.

But really, I was burned out. I pushed really hard and needed a break so I could wrap my mind around what I had created. That said–nearly a decade out I look back and am REALLY proud of what our little indie publishing venture put out. I mean, Nik and Co has an average of four stars with over a thousand reviews across the internet. But more so, the kids really, really, really, like the series.

The last couple of months on my morning runs I started outlining the rest of the series in my head. That’s when I knew I was ready. Up until then I could never really settle into a satisfactory arc for each cycle. But when they started to fall into place, and I WANTED to write them, I knew it was time.

What about all of my other projects? Monster Ranger? The secret upper mg I’m writing? My non-fiction stuff? Those take priority if I sign with a publisher. But until I’ve sold the rights to those books, Nikolas and Co will be my project.

I plan to update you along the way. There may even be some revamping of the original series, and we hope an audiobook.

We’re baaaaack! And it’s gonna be great.
