And here it is. After six books of the bullish relationship between Harry and the Dursley’s, they can finally part ways. Their relationship really is a far cry from the boy that lived in the broom closet, at least in regard to Harry. He is no
w condescending, dismissive, and even annoyed by them. To the point where I’m like – lighten up dude. Where’s the love that is able to withstand the Dark Lord and all his forces? Oh well. Being the “Chosen one” doesn’t make him a saint.
Really, the person you can’t help but to like is Duddykins! Dudley turns out to be the hero of this chapter, with his concern for Potter’s well being. While his father fusses about the house, Potter polishes that chip on his shoulder, it’s Dudley that is worried about Harry’s safety. And can i say, this is the only scene I wish they hadn’t changed in Deathly Hallows Pt 1 the movie. I know they needed to show the relationship between Harry’s mother Lily, and her sister Petunia, but this chapter would have been a great way to wrap up the dysfunctional family that is the Dursleys. It played such a big part of Harry’s character, we really needed some more resolution there.
Overall. We’re still in set up mode, and will probably be that way for awhile. As we all know, Rowling likes to take her time in telling her story cause, well, she’s Rowling.

I really liked Chapter 3 because it showed Dudley coming around. I mean leaving the tea for Harry outside his door. It’s nice seeing that at least Dudley likes Harry. I hated that Harry didn’t appreciate it more. Really, would it have been too hard for Harry to have been nice to Dudley.
Of course, Vernon Dursley is still the same. I liked the little hint at the end of the chapter that there is more to Aunt Petunia’s story. It’s like she has a moment of indecision because she’s turning her back on a world (or being forced yet again out of a world) that she so desperately wanted to be a part of.
